The Jordan Boyd Celebrity Hockey Challenge is a one-day tournament at the BMO Centre in Bedford, in which 8 teams compete for the coveted Boyd’s Cup. Teams play alongside professional hockey players that are drafted to each team by order of their fundraising efforts. The event’s highlight is a Celebrity All-Star game, in which the professional hockey players are split on to two teams, as is the same with the top fundraisers, in a game for the fans and that will celebrate the life of Jordan Boyd and his love for the game of hockey. One hundred per cent of all net proceeds will be designated to inherited heart disease research for early detection through the QEII Foundation.
Jordan was a young athlete whose journey in life ended too soon due to an undiagnosed heart condition called Arythmogenic Right-Ventricle Cardiomiopathy (ARVC). Not only was Jordan a talented hockey player, he was a kindhearted individual who believed in giving back to the community. For such a young man, he demonstrated selflessness and compassion on and off the ice. His brother Greg created this event, through the support of his family and many volunteers to celebrate his life, give back to heart research and treatment initiatives, and to give the community and participants a day to remember, filled with fun.
